wilderness therapy is so fucked as a concept that it is hard for me to have a shred of empathy for any person who sent their child to one regardless of the advertising. “damn, my mentally ill and traumatized child is getting on my nerves. I should send them to be tortured in the middle of the woods with no privacy or shelter or agency for months on end. that will definitely improve their mental state, unlike conventional forms of psychiatric medicine and therapy.” nuh uhhhh. not to mention that a large portion of the teens in the troubled teen industry were not ‘troubled’ in any way that made them a major danger to themselves or others, just normal teens who had parents who wanted to punish them.
